Spanish forward Xabi Alonso has snubbed former club Liverpool and agreed to play for Real Madrid for another two years, ending speculation over his future.
The 32-year-old midfielder, whose deal was due to expire in June, had also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City, but will now stay at the Bernabeu until 2016.
Earlier, reports had suggested that Alonso was likely to return to Anfield four-and-a-half years after leaving Merseyside to join Real Madrid.
Speculations about his reunion with former Real boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea were also floating around.
Alonso confirmed the news on Twitter, posting a photo of the inside of the Bernabeu stadium with the caption: "This will continue to be my home for two more years. A pleasure to let you know. Very, very happy," Metro.co.uk reports.
