ANI London

Chinese capital Beijing has reportedly banned smoking in public places following the introduction of a new law.

The regulation bans smoking in restaurants, offices and on public transport, and those who violate the rule, will have to pay a fine of 40 dollars. Also, those who are caught breaking the law thrice, will be named and shamed on a government website.

According to the BBC, with more than 300 million smokers and over a million Chinese people dying from smoking-related diseases every year, smoking bans already exist in China but authorities have largely failed to crack down on the habit.
