The head of Canada's intelligence agency has reportedly warned that the Islamic State (IS) is spreading to Libya, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Michel Coulombe, the head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), noted at the Senate defence committee that the Nigeria-based militant group, Boko Haram, had already pledged allegiance to the IS. He added that this phenomenon indicated that the terror group was spreading, reported CBC News.

Coulombe however, warned senators not to forget longer-running terror networks like Al Qaeda as Canada shifts its focus to taking on the IS in Iraq and Syria.

Canada's top security officials appeared before the Senate defence committee over government's plans to extend the reach of CSIS overseas.
