Committed to Citizenship Bill: Subramanian Swamy

The on Sunday reiterated its commitment to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

While speaking to ANI, Subramanian Swamy said, "We will make all efforts to implement this bill as it is in the public interest. Around the world, there are only two Hindu countries- and is much bigger than thus it is our responsibility to give citizenships to Hindu in the region. Moreover, we are working on this in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court"

The statement from Swamy came just a day after threatened to pull People's Party out of the BJP-led NDA if the Rajya Sabha passes the Bill.

This Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8 aims to grant citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, and who came to before December 31, 2014.

Several organisations have staged massive protests over the Bill asserting that the legislation will create law and order problems in the North East.
