Costa Rica advance to WC quarterfinals for first time in history

Costa Rica advanced to the quarter finals for the first time in their history after knocking out Greece 5-3 in penalty shootouts in their World Cup last 16 clash in Recife.
Centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos provided Greece with the equaliser in the injury-time to cancel out Bryan Ruiz's opener, which the midfielder scored in the 52nd minute for Greece.
According to the BBC, the match ended in a draw to enter the penalty shootouts where Costa Rica defeated Greece 5-3 as Greek striker Theofanis Gekas missed for his side.
The result means that Costa Rica would face Netherlands on Saturday for a place in the semifinals as their unlikely run at the World Cup continues, the report added.
