Tottenham Hotspur sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Norwegian club Tromso in their Europa League opener helped by two goals in the first half from Jermain Defoe.

Defoe's first-half brace before an impressive strike from new Tottenham player Christian Eriksen rounded off the win at White Hart Lane.

According to Metro.co.uk, however, Spurs victory was slightly tarnished after their player Danny Rose had to leave the field due to injury and was replaced by Jan Vertonghen before the break, while Mousa Dembele was stretched off early in the second half.

Despite their injury woes, the report said that Andre Villas-Boas' side continued to cruise though the game, comfortably winning it, with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris having little to do.

Tottenham next travel to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala on October 3, the report added.
