Reverend Anil Joseph Thomas Couto, the Archbishop of Delhi, has endorsed 'inclusiveness' and called for the promotion of a 'holistic form of education' as important elements of academic pursuit.
"I appreciate the inclusiveness of the marginalized and the holistic education, which as global vision, the students of new India contribute to," said Reverend Couto, who took over as the head of the Delhi Archdiocese last year.
Holistic education is a school of thought that promotes individuality and meaning of life through regular interactions with the community, a connection with nature and moral virtues such as peace and compassion.
The remarks from one of the highest ecclesiastical authorities in India came close on the heels of observing National Education Day, and just days before India's Kailash Satyarthi is to be conferred the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to uplift suppressed children, who often remain bereft of education.
The Archbishop was speaking at the recent annual day function of the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in New Delhi, while echoing the principal of the 95-year old school, Sr Janet Kottamkompil, who in her speech highlighted how her students have lived by these values and made it the bedrock of their education and value system before shining out in different walks of life.
The students presented a spectacular stage performance to a packed audience, titled 'Myriad Hues of Life', which touched upon the various colours and deeper meaning of life.
