Extremely delighted with his match-winning 162-run knock that propelled England to a six-wicket Duckworth-Lewis method win over Sri Lanka in the fourth match of the ODI series, star batsman Jason Roy has admitted that it was nice to see his hard work pay off.

With this victory today at Kenningston Oval, England have also taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Describing the triumph as 'incredible', Roy told Sky Sports that it was really special for him to be able to contribute in the side's winning cause.

Roy, however, said he is disappointed on the personal level as he fell just five runs short of Robin Smith's unbeaten ODI record of 167 against Australia in 1993.

Lavishing praise on Roy, skipper Eoin Morgan said that the 25-year-old displayed an impressive performance, adding he is making use of the most of his form at the moment, the Guardian reported.

Put in to bat first, the Lankan batsmen produced a brilliant batting display to guide their side to a score of 305-5 in 42 overs before the play was hit by rain.

Dhanushka Gunathilaka (62), Kusal Mendis (77), Dinesh Chandimal (63) and skipper Angelo Mathews (unbeaten at 67) all made significant contribution in the side's innings.

In reply, Roy smashed 13 boundaries and three sixes in his scintillating 118-run knock as England chased down the target with 11 balls to spare.

Roy was declared 'man of the match' for his brilliant contribution with the bat.

England will now play their inconsequiental final match against Lanka at Sophia Garden on July 2.
