Farmers call off rail blockade in Punjab

Protesting farmers in Punjab called off their rail blockade on Tuesday, keeping in mind the difficulties faced by people.

The agitating farmers said they would decide their next move after meeting their leaders today.

Earlier on Monday, talks between the representatives of the agitating farmers and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal remained inconclusive.

The farmers had blocked trains at 13 spots across the state.

Agitating farmers were demanding compensation of 40 thousand rupees per acre for loss of cotton crop due to white fly pest attack and 4500 rupees per quintal minimum support price for 1509 variety of paddies.

They also demanded Rs. 5,000 for 1121 variety, waver of debts and relief to the farm labourers.
