A report has revealed that RAF jets have carried out their first strikes on Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) targets in Iraq attacking a "heavy weapon position" and an armed pick-up truck.

The Ministry of Defence said that the air strikes were conducted to support the Kurdish units in north-west Iraq. Kurdish sources said that the RAF strikes have helped the Kurds in retaking a crucial border crossing at Rabia, reported the BBC.

The strikes came four days after the Parliament approved military action in Iraq. About 40 nations are combating the ISIS which controls large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.
