Foreign Secretary Jaishankar meets Afghan Prez Ghani

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar on Wednesday met Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul on the final day of his four-day SAARC Yatra.

Jaishankar discussed issues pertaining to development projects, connectivity and security between India and Afghanistan during his meeting with President Ghani.

During his visit, Jaishankar also met Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs Salahuddin Rabbani, as well as former president Hamid Karzai.

Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin took to twitter to share news of their meeting.

"SAARC Yatra. Foreign Secy Jaishankar has busy schedule in Kabul. Meets Prez @ashrafghani, Fmr Prez Karzai and Foreign Minister Rabbani," he posted.

"Foreign Secy's SAARC Yatra to Afghanistan. India welcomed as partner of choice. Discussions on development projects,connectivity and security," he added.

 

The Foreign Secretary began his SAARC yatra with Bhutan, later travelling to Bangladesh. On Tuesday, Jaishankar met his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in Islamabad, the first meeting between the two Foreign Secretaries since New Delhi had called off talks in August 2014.

He will undertake visits to Sri Lanka, Maldives and Nepal later.

The Foreign Secretary's schedule was announced days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on February 13 that Jaishankar would be leaving on a SAARC Yatra.
