The Youth Congress in Agartala staged a unique protest against inflation and against the state government's inaction to bring the prices of vegetables, including onions, under control.

Wearing garlands made out of vegetables, the Youth Congress activists claimed that the NDA regime at the Centre and the Manik Sarkar-led Left front-ruled government in the state of Tripura were both equally responsible for the current crisis.

Shouting anti-Modi and anti-Sarkar slogans, they recalled that Prime Minister Modi had promised before the election that he will give relief to the common man from inflation, but had totally failed on this score.

They also claimed that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was not able to control the price of vegetables locally produced in the state.

"Right from ladyfinger to various other vegetables are produced in huge quantities in the state, and therefore, there is no reason for this price rise. Today, a kilogram of ladyfinger is going for Rs. 120, and is out of reach of the poor. Both the BJP at the Centre and the CPI-M in the state are opposite sides of the same coin and have totally failed in serving the cause of the common people," said Sushanata Chowdhury, the president of the Youth Congress in Tripura.

"Black marketers are taking advantage of the situation and making huge profits. Both the BJP and the CPI-M are not taking any steps against them. The Youth Congress is demonstrating against this," he added.

Earlier, the Youth Congress had organised a similar protest across the nation against the NDA Government's failure to control inflation.
