'Give place at Marina': Slogans raised for Karunanidhi's memorial

Hours after Tamil Nadu government denied burial space for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi at Chennai's Marina beach, scores of his supporters and party workers in Rameshwaram raised slogan "Long live our Kalaignar's fame. Give Place, Give Place

The DMK supporters also created ruckus at some places, demanding space for Karunanidhi's memorial at Marina beach.

The five-time Tamil Nadu chief minister passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness at the age of 94. Many political leaders expressed their grief over his demise on social media.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, will fly to Chennai on Wednesday to pay their last respects, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth reached at Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence on late Tuesday night where his mortal remains are kept.

 

Meanwhile, the Bihar Government announced two-day state mourning in view of Karunanidhi's demise. The Karnataka Government also announced a day-long state mourning.
