The Indian-Americans have lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's move to scrap Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes while dubbing the initiative as a bold move to curb corruption.

"I congratulate PM Modi for this, big action against black money," Dildar Singh, an Indian American told ANI when asked about his view on New Delhi's decision.

Another Indian American Amarjit echoing similar sentiments said it is a good move to unearth the black money.

"It was a sudden decision but it is a bold move to curb corruption," added another Indian American Shakeel Abbasi.

Meanwhile in India, long queues were noticed outside cash deposit machine counters, ATMs and petrol pumps across various cities.

Depositors supporting the swift decision of the Prime Minister expressed that initially common people may have to face a little problem but ultimately it will benefit the nation.

Prime Minister Modi in a televised address to the nation from New Delhi declared the ban on Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes from midnight as part of his government's efforts to crackdown on black money.
