Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' call has been received well by young entrepreneurs across the country. Some youngsters in Manipur have launched their own it company called 'Kok Sam Lai Solutions'.
Catching up with the emerging trend of start-ups, four youth in Imphal set up an IT solutions company called 'Kok Sam Lai' in 2012.
The firm provides services like web designing, graphics and other custom-made services as per the needs of the client. The company has slowly evolved into a software development enterprise with over 300 clients including 70 schools.
Currently, it employs over 20 youths and expects to hire more in the near future.
"There was a point we wished to go home, but the situation was like we were working in different parts of the country. And going home there was no job options. Job opportunities were not there in Imphal. So, we decided to go back home and start something over there," said Harijit Salam, Managing Director, Koi Sam Lai Solutions.
"Since we were there in the IT field and that was the only expertise we have at that point of time. So, we came together and thought that it would be better to start an IT company in Imphal considering the scenario at that point of time," he added.
'Kok Sam Lai' is planning to roll out more software products. Some of its services include SIMSLite School management system in education sector, CMS - Cadet Management in National Cadet Corps Imphal Unit, Bill Station - a versatile product applicable in retail shop, fast food, and printing press.
So far, the company has seven softwares' which are selling to different clients across the state.
Taking advantage of the 'Make in India' initiative, the company is trying to sell its product beyond the boundaries of Manipur and neighboring countries.
The launch of companies like Kok Sam Lai in Manipur reflects the growth of IT sector in the remote northeastern region.
"Instead of working for others, I would love to work for my homeland that is Manipur. So I would like people to emphasis more on local product and local software. Let us promote 'Make in Manipur'. The only things we can bring development in Manipur," said Diana, Coordinator, Kok Sam Lai Solutions.
