Liverpool legend John Barnes dismisses club's Premier League title chances this season

ANI London

Former Liverpool footballer John Barnes has dismissed the club's Premier League title chances this season and has warned the controversial Luis Suarez that he could end up a hate figure like former Liverpool player Fernando Torres.

Brendan Rodgers' side have had their best start to the season in five years and could return to the Champions League for the first time since 2009, although back-to-back defeats at challengers Manchester City and Chelsea knocked them out of the top four in the Premier League.

According to the Mirror, Barnes, who was part of the last Liverpool team to win the league title in 1990, feels that the current crop lack the strength in depth to mount a serious title challenge, adding that Suarez will not continue to score two goals every game like he has done.

Stating that Liverpool does not have the talent need to maintain their current level of performance if Suarez all of a sudden loses form, Barnes, however, said that his former club is on course to return to the Champions League and feels that Rodgers can seriously consider a future title tilt if they secure a top-four finish this term in the Premier League.

Liverpool's displays this season have been fuelled by the sensational form of Suarez, who has scored 20 goals in 15 Premier League outings, although Barnes believes it is far too soon to rank the Uruguayan among the all-time Anfield greats.
