Liverpool has moved into the second place in the Premier League following a 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday away at St. Mary's Stadium.
With League Cup finalists Manchester City not involved in Premier League action and Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Stoke City earlier, the third place was up for grabs for Liverpool.
According to Sport24, Luis Suarez put Liverpool ahead after 16 minutes of his 100th Premier League appearance with his first goal since January 28, following which Raheem Sterling, a 57th-minute substitute, scored with his first touch of the game.
Steven Gerrard then netted a penalty in injury time, sending the hosts to the second spot in the Premier League.
Southampton brought Dejan Lovren back in place of Maya Yoshida for his first game since the Croatian centre-back damaged ankle ligaments in a 2-2 draw at Sunderland in mid-January, the report added.
