Lok Sabha passes amendment bill on CBI chief's appointment

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Delhi Special Police Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2014 by a voice vote, wherein, the CBI director will henceforth be selected by a panel comprising of the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha or the leader of the single largest party in the House and Chief Justice of India or any Supreme Court Judge.
Earlier, there was no provision of the leader of the single largest party in the panel.
The Bill also makes a provision that no appointment will be invalid merely because of a vacancy or an absence of a member of the panel.
