West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra was produced before the Alipore Court over his alleged connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam here on Tuesday.
Mitra had been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam and has been remanded to CBI custody till today.
Earlier, angry protestors were seen holding placards expressing their displeasure over the CBI's move to arrest Mitra. The TMC workers had also reportedly blocked several roads in the Burdwan district, including the national highway.
Taking strong exception to Mitra's arrest in connection with the multi-crore scam, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Friday termed his arrest 'illegal and unconstitutional'.
Last month, TMC MP Srinjoy Bose had been arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam.
