Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Manikrao Thakre tendered his resignation here on Sunday.
The resignation came after senior Congress leaders conceded defeat in both Maharashtra and Haryana.
According to the latest trends, the Congress is leading in only 44 seats in Maharashtra, dropping to the fourth position with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at the third position with 45 seats, Shiv Sena at second position with 59 seats and the BJP at the first position with 118 seats.
Manikrao Thakre had earlier today dismissed the initial trends and said that he hoped the Congress would get above 50 seats in the state assembly.
