Perez's hat-trick helps Arsenal seal top spot in CL

Lucas Perez marked his first Champions League appearance for Arsenal with a hat-trick as the Arsene Wenger-led side brushed aside Basel 4-1 to seal top spot in Group A at St. Jakob-Park here on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old striker fired twice in the first half from close range to put Arsenal in a commanding position before he pulled one more back for his side just two minutes after the half-time.

In the 53rd minute of the match, Alex Owobi added a fourth goal by slotting home from close range before Basel found a consolation goal through Seydou Doumbia in the 78th minute,goal.com reported.

 

For the first time since 2011-12, Arsenal have finished top in a Champions League group campaign after clinching four wins from six games.

In another clash of Group A, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) finished second after settling with a 2-2 draw against Ludogorets at the Parc des Princes Stadium.
