Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Suresh Prabhu on Thursday called for seamless policing to ensure security and safety of the passengers.

Addressing the conference of Director Generals of Police (DGP) of all states on railway security, Prabhu said with the increase in crimes, it is inevitable that the railways will also be its victim.

"Social, political and economic factors also contribute to the crime rate going up; and unemployment, regional disparities and growing ambitions not being fulfilled also contribute to it," he added.

Prabhu emphasized that there should be a seamless policing.

"There should be a policing which should be in one unified command and that's how it should happen. I think that's the challenge the rail needs to deal with," said Prabhu.

"I have written letters to all the Chief Ministers. I have been meeting them. Yesterday also I met three Chief Ministers and day before and have also requested them to take up the same issue," he added.

Inviting the officers to device joint strategy to deal with crimes, especially on running trains, Prabhu said as law-enforcers there is a challenge as policing in railways is a difficult task.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was present at the conference.
