The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community on Thursday took to the streets in the heart of the national capital to protest the re-criminalisation of homosexuality in India.

The participants held rainbow flags and sang songs about "azadi", while adding, "raja ko raja se pyaar ho gaya".

"Section 377 is applicable to the general population too, people fail to realize that. The law has to be changed to give rights and freedom to people to live the way they want," said activist Abhina Aher.

"Nature created me with five fingers, same nature created Hrithik Roshan with six fingers; does that make him unnatural?" she asked.

The Supreme Court threw out a 2009 ruling by the Delhi High court that had decriminalized gay sex, saying only Parliament could repeal Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which bans sex against the order of nature.
