Rajnath Singh underlines need for robust telecommunications during disasters

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed communication network during disasters with the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology also attended the meeting.

The representatives of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology informed that a committee has been constituted under their Ministry to submit a report within two months on suggestions for improving the communication network during disasters.

The participants discussed the experiences of difficulties faced in the field of communications during the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand's natural disaster last year.

 

Singh also mentioned that they should setup a robust telecommunication system that would withstand natural disasters by a greater degree.

He further said that the existing system can be further improved based on national and international experiences in such situations.
