Rio Olympics: Mirza-Bopanna roll into mixed doubles semis

India's Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna have continued their quest for Olympic medal in Rio de Janeiro as they have booked their place in the semi-finals of the mixed doubles event with a straight-set victory in their last-eight encounter here last evening.

The fourth-seeded tennis pair registered a 6-4, 6-4 win over British pair of Heather Watson and Andy Murray in a thrilling quarter-final contest that lasted one hour and seven minutes.

Bopanna and Mirza will next face American pair of Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram for a place in the finals later today.

In the 2012 London Olympics, the Indian pair of Sania and Leander Paes had reached till the quarterfinals, before going down to eventual champions Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi of Belarus.
