Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal produced a perfect blend of power and precision as she defeated her Japanese opponent Sayaka Takahashi in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the World Championship in Jakarta on Thursday.
The world number two overcame 14th seed Takahashi 21-18, 21-14 in the pre-quarter clash that lasted over 46 minutes. She recovered brilliantly from 7-0 down to win the first set.
Meanwhile, PV Sindhu produced the biggest upset of the competition after defeating London Olympics champion Li Xuerui of China 21-17, 14-21, 21-17 in a pulsating thriller that lasted over 50 minutes.
Sindhu, the two-time World Championship bronze medallist, will next square off against eighth seeded Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea for securing a semi-final berth.
