A Saudi Arabian religious policeman has been sentenced to two months in prison for wrongly assaulting a citizen for violating religious guidelines.
The Gulf News reports the Promotion of Virtue police had launched an investigation into the incident after the victim reported that the 'religious' police officer had incorrectly accused him of being alone with an unrelated female.
Meanwhile, police officers from the Al Aqeeq station had ordered to take the assailant into custody, despite resisting arrest.
The court's proceedings have revealed that the officer had a personal conflict with the victim, which he sought to settle by exploiting his position as a member of the committee, the report added.
