Scientific formula for making perfect donuts revealed

Mathematicians have finally come up with a scientific formula for making the perfect doughnut.

Dr Eugenia Cheng, Senior Lecturer of Pure Mathematics at the University of Sheffield, used calculus to find out what gives those deep-fried delights that can't-say-no appeal and identified the "squidge to crispy ratio" which proves that the smaller the hole in the middle of the doughnut, the squidgier it is, while the bigger the hole, the more crispy the doughnut is, the Daily Star reported.

The self-confessed foodie, who has previously worked on defining "the perfect cream tea", was called upon by Domino's Pizza UK to find the formula for the dream doughnut.

Simon Wallis, sales and marketing director at Domino's, said that the hole is integral to the 'whole' doughnut experience, so it makes complete sense that it affects the texture and taste.
