A Swedish ice hockey player and an Austrian cross-country skier were thrown out of the Winter Olympics failing drug tests, taking the doping toll to six at Sochi.
Sweden's ice hockey star Nicklas Backstorm failed a drug test at the games and was reportedly dropped from the team, following Sweden's 3-0 loss to Canada in the gold medal game.
Austrian cross-country skier Johannes Duerr, due to take part in the men's 50km on the final day of the Games, also tested positive in a pre-competition test in Austria and was reportedly labelled a 'scoundrel' by his own team.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Swedish national hockey team general manger Tommy Boustedt accused the IOC of sabotaging their gold medal and said that they knew about Backstrom's positive result sooner but delayed telling anyone and suspected it to be a political move on IOC's part.
Boustedt also said that the board waited to withhold Backstrom's positive test for a substance found in an allergy medication that he was taking since seven years, to create an impact with the journalists, the report added.
