Visitors flocked to see tigers roaming free and wild in the world famous sanctuary at Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand as it reopened on Wednesday after four months of closure because of the monsoon.

"Previously we have seen a lot of animals in the zoo, but this is the first time we will see them in the open. So, we are really very excited. For the first time we have come to the Corbett and we are enjoying a lot," said Priyanka Madan, a tourist.

The Deputy Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve, Dr. Saket Badola, said the Bijrani zone has been reopened today while the other zones will reopen on November 15.

"Bijrani zone of Corbett tiger reserve had been closed because of the rains. From today it has been reopened for the tourists. And the Thikala zone and other night stay resorts will reopen from 15th of November," said Dr. Badola.

Jim Corbett National Park was established in 1936 to safeguard the endangered tiger. It is primarily a tiger reserve, but there are around 600 species of birds and animals.

Corbett has been divided into four safari zones namely Dhikala Zone, Jhirna Zone, Bijrani Zone and Durga Devi Zone.

Specific zones are open to tourists and other visitors during specific periods of time.

A safari ride is provided to the tourists in jeeps. On an average, around 70,000 visitors come to this world famous sanctuary every season.
