The U.S. has reportedly acquired the top spot on the 2013 Dirty Dozen Spampionship league table, becoming the world's capital for spam-spewing zombified computers.

The result that was released by security software firm Sophos generated a majority of 14.5 percent of the total spam sent.

Meanwhile, China stood at second place in the spam sending league with 8.2 percent followed by Russia, whose spam contribution edged up from 3.0 percent in Q3 to 5.5 percent, PC World reported.

Sophos senior security analyst Paul Ducklin said that the Dirty Dozen charts highlighted a global issue of zombified computers spewing spam.
