The government of Uganda has planned to introduce a new anti-gay law that would withstand any legal challenge despite opposition from the United States and other western countries, said a government minister.
According to the BBC, the U.S. and other nations are cutting down funding to Uganda in protest against the law.
The government minister said that the law will rely on penal code that prescribes life sentence for "unnatural acts" but it will not explicitly refer to homosexuality.
Protesters said that the plan is more draconian than anti-gay law legislation that was annulled by the courts earlier.
Many political observers believe that the bill, known as 'The Prohibition of Promotion of Unnatural Sexual Practices Bill', would see light of day due to the pressure from the western governments not to further criminalize the gay community.
