US Secretary of State John Kerry has branded intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden a fugitive from justice and said that the former NSA contractor should man up and return back and come back to the nation.

Kerry, while speaking in the wake of an interview with NBC in which Snowden said that he sought asylum in Russia because the US revoked his passport, said that if Snowden believes in America, he should trust the American system of justice.

According to the BBC, Kerry said that a patriot would not run away, and if Snowden, who also described himself as a trained spy and not a low-level analyst, wants to come back to the US, they would have him on a flight on the same day.

Kerry also called Snowden 'confused' and said that the former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor is a man who has done great damage to his country.

Snowden, had claimed in the NBC interview that he was a trained spy who worked undercover overseas for the CIA and NSA, but described himself as a technical expert who did not recruit agents.

Snowden had been working as a technician for Booz Allen, a giant government contractor for the NSA, when he fled the US in May 2013, the report added.
