A massive Lego model of the Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter was unveiled in Times Square, New York City on Thursday.

Made out of a whopping 5.3 million Lego pieces, the craft weighs in at nearly 46,000lbs and is 43 feet (13.1 metres) long.

Its wingspan measures 44 feet (13.44 metres) across, and is the largest Lego model ever built, Sky News reported.

The ship is the work of 32 master Lego builders in the Czech Republic, who spent a total of 17,336 hours clicking its pieces into place over the course of four months.

A representative from the toy company said its master builders' kid-like desire to test their skills was what led to the enormous project.

The massive model's unveiling also coincides with the premiere of a new Star Wars-themed animated series, 'The Yoda Chronicles'.

After New York, the model is due to travel to California for permanent installation at Legoland in Carlsbad.
