Core inflation rises for third straight month to 4.6% in June 2015
The all-India general CPI inflation moved up to 5.4% in June 2015 (new base 2012=100) from 5.01% in May 2015. An increase in inflation for food and beverages mainly contributed to the rise in overall CPI inflation, while housing inflation declined restricting an increase in overall CPI inflation in June 2015.The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 6.1% and urban area 4.6% in June 2015 as against 5.5% and 4.4% in May 2015.
The core CPI inflation rose to 4.6% in June 2015 from 4.4% in May 2015 and 3.9% in March 2015.
The CPI inflation increase in June 2015 was mainly driven by higher inflation for food and beverages to 5.7% from 5.1% in May 2015. Within the group, the CPI inflation moved up for pulses and products (22.2%), meat and fish (7.0%), vegetables (5.4%), oils and fats (3.1%), egg (5.1%), and spices (9.7%), while inflation eased for milk & products (7.2%), sugar and confectionery (-8.6%) and fruits (3.5%) in June 2015.
The inflation of the pan, tobacco & intoxicants group rose to 9.8%, while inflation for clothing and footwear also increased to 6.3% in June 2015. Within in miscellaneous item group, the inflation galloped for household goods and services (5.7%), health 5.6%, transport and communication (0.9%) and personal care and effects (4.2%) in June 2015.
On the other hand, the housing inflation eased to 4.5%, while the CPI inflation for fuel and light also fell to 5.9% in June 2015.
