Japan Nikkei falls on trade tensions between Washington and Beijing

The Japan share market finished session down on Friday, 06 April 2018, amid escalating concerns about trade tensions between Washington and Beijing after news that the Trump Administration was threatening to triple proposed tariffs against China. Trade tensions returned to the fore after Trump said late on Thursday that he had instructed US trade officials to consider $100 billion in additional tariffs on China, keeping the trade dispute between the world's two economic superpowers on the boil. The 225-issue Nikkei average lost 77.90 points, or 0.36%, to end at 21,567.52. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, finished down 5.31 points, or 0.31%, at 1,719.30. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2284 to 1108 and 156 ended unchanged. The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.79% to 21.63.
