In overseas markets, Asian markets were trading mixed. US markets rallied yesterday, 21 December 2015 led by gains in telecom and technology stocks as investors shrugged off weak oil prices.
Closer home, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 37.37 crore yesterday, 21 December 2015, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 62.70 crore yesterday, 21 December 2015, as per provisional data.
State Bank of India (SBI) announced that the Committee of Directors of the bank at its meeting held yesterday, 21 December 2015, inter-alia authorized the bank to raise upto Rs 12000 crore by way of issue of Basel III compliant Tier II bonds, at par, through private placement. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 21 December 2015.
Trading for the week began on a positive note as gains in index heavyweights ITC and Infosys along with gains for metal stocks took key benchmark indices higher yesterday, 21 December 2015. The Sensex rose 216.68 points or 0.85% to settle at 25,735.90, its highest closing level since 17 December 2015.
