Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (24 March 2020) called for a nationwide lockdown starting midnight. The duration of the lockdown will be 21 days, added Modi.
Modi said the 21-day lockdown was necessary to break the chain of the COVID-19 virus, adding that "social distancing is the only option to combat the virus outbreak".
Coronavirus has infected more than 396,000 people and killed more than 17,200 across the world. More than 103,700 people have recovered. India has reported 10 deaths and over 519 cases so far.
