Work under progress on Unit No. 5 of 500 MW capacity at Trombay Power Station
Tata Power Company announced that on 02 September 2014, at 09:45 hours, the Mumbai power supply was affected due to tripping of Unit No. 5 of 500 MW capacity at Trombay Power Station due to technical fault.Immediately, after tripping of the 500 MW unit, partial load was restored through enhanced generation from the Company's hydro stations and the Company activated the initialization activities of its cold standby Unit No.6, which runs on oil and was kept on cold standby as per directive of the procurers.
While Unit No.5 restoration work is still under progress, Unit No.6 (also 500 MW), which was on cold stand-by has been synchronized and is generating.
There has been NO load shedding after about 9.00 p.m. While the power was available in neighboring areas of Maharashtra considering rainy season, however, due to overloading of state transmission network, the distribution companies were not able to import power for Mumbai.
The distribution companies did a rotational load shedding in their respective areas of about 200-300 MW during 9.45 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Mumbai load has been fully restored and power normalized fully.
