Turnover on NSE's F&O segment soars

Nifty April futures trade at modest premium to spot price

The April 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 7787.60, a premium of 49.20 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7738.40 in the cash market. The Nifty May 2016 futures traded at 7814.10, a premium of 75.70 points compared with the spot closing for the index.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) futures and options (F&O) totaled Rs 6.48 lakh crore, which was sharply higher than turnover of Rs 5.05 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session. Turnover surged due to rollover from the near month F&O contracts. The March 2016 F&O contracts expired today, 31 March 2016.

 

In the cash market, the Nifty gained 3.20 points or 0.04% to settle at 7,738.40, its highest closing level since 6 January 2016.

HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries (RIL), State Bank of India, Infosys, Tata Steel and HDFC were listed among the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE. HDFC Bank April 2016 futures traded at 1083, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1071.80. RIL April 2016 futures traded at 1051.25, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1045. SBI April 2016 futures traded at 195.15, near spot closing of 194.

Infosys April 2016 futures traded at 1228, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1220. Tata Steel April 2016 futures traded at 319.85, near spot closing of 319.05. HDFC April 2016 futures traded at 1113.90, near spot closing of 1107.

The April 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 April 2016. The May 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 26 May 2016.
