A minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered, and her body was found in the state capital Sunday, said police.
The incident has triggered protests by residents who caught two suspects and thrashed them. The two suspects have been detained and interrogated, police said.
The seven-year-old girl went missing late Saturday near her house at Ishopur locality in Phulwarisharief city and her body was found in a tank, Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said here.
A police official said the girl was first raped and then strangled to death.
Hundreds of people blocked National Highway-9 for over two hours to protest the incident and demanded severe punishment for the suspects.
