Adopt a stray dog, get a tax break

Residents of the coastal town of Fiumicino near Rome in Italy can encash on their love for petsafter local authorities announced a 50 percent discount on their trash collection tax on adopting a cat or dog from the local pound.
The measure is part of the town's 2014 budget, which was approved by the centre-left town council Monday, ANSA reported Tuesday.
"This was in addition to exemptions and tax breaks for disadvantaged categories," said Mayor Esterino Montino, who is from the centre-left Democratic Party or Partito Democratico(PD).
