Boat capsize kills five in Bihar

At least five women drowned and nine others were missing when an overcrowded boat capsized in the Ganga in Bihar's Buxar district, an official said Wednesday.

Bodies of all five women have been recovered, Buxar District Magistrate Raman Kumar said. Eight women were rescued by villagers.

Kumar said 22 women, mostly labourers, were in the boat when the accident took place late Tuesday.

The Bihar government has announced a compensation of Rs.1.5 lakh to the kin of the five women.
