Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Sunday encouraged people to buy products made of Khadi this Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) to support the poor.
"I always encourage people to buy Khadi. Lets buy products made of Khadi to commemorate this Gandhi Jayanti which would contribute to the poor involved in this trade," Modi said in his monthly radio address 'Mann ki Baat'.
The Khadi movement was started by Mahatma Gandhi in the 1920's so that Indians could be free from foreign cloth and clothing.
It was also to promote rural self-employment.
