The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Queensland, Australia Smart City Consortium (ASCC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help India build smart cities.

The ASCC is a group of companies that will work on the government's 'smart city mission' that aims to cover 100 cities in the next five years.

"It is a huge challenge as India faces huge urban explosion," Chris Elstoft, Australian Deputy High Commissioner to India, told reporters here.

"India's mission of smart city is about sustainability," added Soma Banerjee, Principal (Energy and Infrastructure) CII, adding that the motive of CII is to build the nation and smart city is one such step.
