French transport facility manufacturer Alstom Monday said it has won a business deal worth 1.2 billion euros ($1.6 billion) to build three metro lines in Saudi Arabia.

The company will provide a complete automatic and driverless metro system and set up new subway lines in the capital Riyadh, Xinhua cited a company statement as saying.

The project also includes an option for 10 years of maintenance services, Alstom said.

The company would also offer a new technology that installs tracks three times faster than traditional methods.

The deal was scheduled to be finalised within three months, with the new metro to start working in 2018, according to the statement.

Alstom employs 93,000 workers in around 100 countries. It posted sales of 20.3 billion euros in the 2012-13 fiscal year.
