A ten-member delegation of officials of the union government met Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Alok Ranjan on Thursday and discussed with him the drought situation in the state.

The delegation, led by additional secretary Raghvendra Singh, toured the drought-hit districts during the past few days.

Discussing with the top-ranking state official the demand of Rs.2,057.79 crore made by the state from the Centre, the officials sought some time for clarifications and information from the state.

Following this, Ranjan directed district officials to furnish the details within two days so as to expedite the sanction of the relief package.

The state government has declared 50 of its total 75 districts as drought-hit.
