Kerala councillor slashes wrist to protest mayor's apathy

A Congress councillor in Kerala Thursday slashed her wrist to protest Kozhikode mayor's callous attitude towards the needs of her ward.
Councillor C.S. Satyabhama was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to the Medical College Hospital. She is now out of danger, doctors said.
Mayor A.K. Premajam, a Communist Party of India-Marxist leader, was caught unawares as this happened in front of her at the Kozhikode corporation office.
"As I was leaving for lunch, she (Satyabhama) came in front of me and she had a file in her hand and suddenly she slashed her wrist. I did not say anything to her at all," said Premajam, a former Lok Sabha member.
Satyabhama said despite numerous reminders of the development needs in her ward, the mayor did not look into her requests.
"This is a protest for the people of my ward, whose needs are being ignored because of political reasons," said Satyabhama.
