West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday expressed grief over the train accident in Andhra Pradesh and accused the government of neglecting the railways.

"The railways is neglected and being given less priority. The budget is being curtailed. Passenger safety and security are being compromised," Banerjee said.

"Sadly, even today many people lost their lives. My condolences to their loved ones," she said.

A former railway minister, the Trinamool Congress supremo urged the central government to address the incidents of lapses in the railways urgently.

"We don't blame the minister; he is earnest in his efforts," she added.
