Man tries to mow down US Capitol police officer, held

A driver rammed a Capitol police cruiser on Wednesday and then attempted to run over police officers near the US Capitol, authorities said.

The driver was taken into custody and there were no reported injuries, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson told CNN.

Police officers, according to reports, fired shots, but no one was hit.

The incident happened on Independence Avenue around 9:30 a.m. (local time), the police said.

No others details were immediately available.
